A loan helped to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, to enable this borrower with a good credit history to grow more crops and help create hope for her in 2019.

Cecilia's story

Cecilia’s lovely smile makes a dark day seem bright. She is a hardworking mom from a remote village in the Nyamira area of Kenya. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her family a good start by providing them with a good quality of life.

Cecilia has a farm where she grows different crops and raises livestock. She also earns some income from a personal business. The Nyamira area is a favorable one for farming, so she is seeking an 80,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy farm inputs, such as fertilizer, to enable her to grow more crops, reap maximum profits, and expand her business.

Being a poor woman and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around her remote village, is very challenging, but Cecilia feels relieved knowing there are institutions, such as Kiva, that help enterprising women like herself. She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions, but her biggest dreams are to become independent and to secure her family’s future. She is a borrower who has a good credit history and is worth supporting this month of love.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
