A loan helped to purchase high-quality seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers, which she will use to greatly improve her crop production.

Catherine's story

This is Catherine (a seamstress), a woman who is honest and hardworking. She is a loyal person who is completely dedicated to her farming job because she has a family to take care of. Catherine has been farming for the past few years. Over the years, she has gained much experience and is considered among the best farmers in her village. Catherine is very passionate about farming and loves cultivating her farm.

Access to modern quality farm inputs (e.g. fertilizers and seeds) is the pillar of the agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest to a significant improvement in input availability.

That is why Catherine is seeking a loan to buy farm inputs. Through this loan, she will be able to purchase high-quality seeds and high-nutrient fertilizers that she will use to greatly improve her crop production. Modern farming requires the use of modern techniques and high-quality seeds, which will assure her of a bumper harvest and increased profits.

Catherine’s dream is to continue to grow her mixed farm and thus tell the story that, thanks to Kiva's dedicated employees and the help of Juhudi Kilimo, she was able to improve her farm's productivity.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
