Jessica's story

Jared grew up on a small farm in rural Minnesota and Jessi grew up in the Potomac valley just outside Missoula. We met in college in 2007 as Zoology lab partners and have been together ever since. Our passion for bio intensive farming started long before we purchased our land, but was intensified after a six week long journey through Asia where we volunteered with an agroforestry project in rural Nepal. We purchased our land almost two years ago, and have since built our home using energy efficient focus of passive solar methods and straw bale construction. We own 2 acres of prime agriculture land in the heart of the Bitterroot valley with irrigation rights. We plan to continue planting trees for wind rows, expand our orchard (currently 25 fruit trees), and adding a few more animals such as pigs and ducks to our already established flock of laying hens. We are utilizing best practices to use every inch of our land to produce food, medicinal plants, and an attractive homestead that welcomes native species. We have both either started small businesses in the past, or been part of developing new startups promoting sales and operations. Through these varied experiences we have learned to be resilient, dedicated and passionate about providing local and healthy options for our community.
