Kom's story

Kom K., 51, is married and lives with her two school-aged children in Kompongcham Province, Cambodia. K. has a business of selling various kinds of groceries. She is able to earn an income of $15 per day to help cover the family expenses. She has been in this business since 2005. Her husband is a veterinarian in their village. He always provides regular health care to animals in the village and he is able to earn an income of $8 per day to assist his family.

K. and her family members try to work hard and help each other to ensure a good standard of living for the family. They are seeking to improve their businesses as well. As a result, K. is requesting a loan of $500 from CREDIT, Kiva’s partner. She wants to use the loan to purchase piglets to raise for sale when they are sufficiently big enough. This is her first loan from CREDIT.
