The Achachairu Communal Bank was founded on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at the offices of Emprender as part of “Plan 3000”. The group consists of eleven members who are from the district of Quior and live between #1 and #2 Streets. They are currently in their second loan cycle and get together every two weeks to make their loan payments and conduct their meetings at the Emprender offices at 3PM. The members greatly desire to increase their operating capital. Many of them are traveling vendors who do not have established retail locations.
Sra. Yessenia is one of the founding members. She is married and has adult children. Her husband works for COPAAGUS. She prepares empanadas, salteñas, and bread and sells them from the doorstep of her house. In addition, she provides these items to a few young men to sell in the neighborhood.
Sra. Ana Maria is also a founding member. She sells undergarments that she acquires from the Barrio Lindo Fair. Ana Maria travels from neighborhood to neighborhood to offer her products, sometimes selling them on credit. This is not the only business she manages. In order to provide for the welfare of her family, she also sells cosmetics.
Sra. Seli is a new member who is participating in this second loan cycle. She is a single mother with one child. Seli is a dynamic woman who sells children’s clothing as a street vendor and offers her merchandise on credit. She visits each district in the city of Santa Cruz. Selling clothes is her main business, but she also runs a second business selling doors. Sometimes she is able to run both businesses as the same time.
All of the members are grateful to Emprender and Kiva for demonstrating their confidence in them by providing this loan.
