A loan helped to expand her gardening business.

Sheila's story

Sheila is a 33-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband and two children in the Wedza district in Zimbabwe. She runs her own horticulture business.

With her first Kiva loan, Sheila bought more inputs, such as fertilizers and vaccines, to boost her production and keep her livestock healthy. She used the profit she earned to support her family with essential commodities, as well as supporting the vulnerable in the community.

Sheila is now requesting a second loan to expand her horticulture business by purchasing more tomato and vegetable seeds, fertilizer, fencing, and a tractor engine for harvest. She plans to use the profit she earns to pay fees for her children and support the vulnerable in the community, as well as helping her family.

Sheila will repay the "social interest" on her second loan by volunteering 2.5 hours per week as a CAMFED Learner Guide, supporting other young women who are just entering CAMFED’s alumnae organization, CAMA, by delivering an orientation course with weekly sessions on topics including health and financial literacy, as well as by providing career guidance.

This loan is special because:

It is a 0% interest loan for young women with new businesses.
