More than 28,000 underserved ladies participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare services. They have little or no formal education and their monthly training meetings, that cover an aspect of 4 subjects (business, health, family, women) are essential to their success as entrepreneurs, mothers, and women. They are proud to have businesses that help support their households and the education of their children.
Nine Maya K’iche women, who live in the department/state of Solola, meet monthly in their Trust Bank “Guadalupe”. Almost all of them have traditional textile business and weave/embroider colorful textile treasures that are very time to consume to make. They are motivated to set aside funds for the education of their children as they realize that a good education is a pathway to a successful future.
Elena is a married 43-year-old mother of 4 children, who range in age from 8-21. The older children have a complete education while the younger are still in school. Elena makes beautiful and colorful shawls, scarves, wallets, purses and cosmetic bags. There is much demand for her merchandise and she needs a loan to buy a sewing machine and many colors of high quality thread. She wants KIVA investors to know how much she appreciates their kindness in funding these loans.
It would be impossible for Elena to walk into a bank to secure a loan. Kiva investors fill an essential role along with Friendship Bridge in the lives of these ladies.
Thank you!
