A loan helped a member to buy high quality thread of all colors and a variety of seeds.

Flor Girasol Group's story

This is the first loan cycle for the seven ladies in the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Flor Girasol” or “Sunflower” Group. They live in a rural area in the department/state of Chimaltenango and in order to sell their traditional textiles and vegetables (carrots, beets, peas), they need to travel 30 minutes in the back of a pickup on a bumpy dirt road. The women feel fortunate to have small businesses to help support their families. After planning carefully, they will use their loan funds in their businesses to buy high quality thread and seeds.

Feliciana, a 45-year-old mother who has two businesses, traditional textiles and farming, is happy that she has been able to raise the standard of living of her family. She has been able to send her six school-age children off to school. Her three oldest ones have graduated from high school while the younger ones are still in elementary and high schools. Feliciana has six years of schooling that has helped her run her business. She is requesting a Kiva loan to buy high quality thread of all colors and a variety of seeds.

The Microcredit Plus program, combining loans, education, and healthcare services, helps these ladies immensely. At their monthly meetings, they learn about valuable business tools like budgeting, planning, investing, and saving. They also learn about an aspect of three other topics that include health, family, and women.

Kiva investors, partnering with Friendship Bridge, are highly valued by these ladies! Thank you!
