A loan helped to purchase farming inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her farm yield and generate profits to improve her family's living conditions.

Joyce's story

Joyce is a passionate smallholder farmer who started farming four years ago due to the economic necessities of her life. Her childhood reveals a very poor upbringing with a lack of basic necessities in life such as food, clothing, and education. Her childhood was nothing close to a walk in the park, but she never gave up her hopes of wanting to be successful. This level of success has been fuelled by, among other things, her desire to achieve, work ethic and passion to prosper.

In Kenya, agriculture is one of the most competitive industries, especially due to the high costs of operations necessary to improve farming. Such costs include the cost of land acquisition and inputs, which have always skyrocketed. To meet the high costs of inputs, farmers have been forced to borrow from financial institutions, which sometimes impose very complicated procedures in loans distribution. Some farmers, especially women, end up in hopelessness and despondency and lack morale to invest in agriculture.

Joyce is requesting a loan to purchase farming inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her farm yield. She will generate more income to repay the loan debt and improve her family's quality of life. She also hopes to improve the conditions of her house.
