Seven women are part of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "Las Trabajadoras" or “The workers”. They live in the Department (State) of Quiché. The women are Maya K'iche speaking and one of the largest ethnic groups in Guatemala. They are starting their second loan cycle with Kiva. The loans they are requesting are to invest in buying animals for their farms, as well as a variety of threads to weave traditional clothing.
Natalia is a member of the Trust Bank and has one year of formal education. She is 41 years old and has 10 children between ages 10 days and 19 years. Natalia is a weaver, and her business is creating traditional blouses, "huipiles". With the profits from her business, she has been able to support her husband and provide a formal education for her children. She wants to continue expanding her business and attract new clients. She is requesting a loan to buy a variety of high quality yarn.
Thanks to partnership between Kiva investors and Friendship Bridge, women like Natalia can get a loan, receive monthly trainings, and have health service access that are all part of the "Microcredit Plus" program where they learn good business management skills, like budgeting, controlling expenses, and investing.
