Brenda's Group's story

Brenda's group is comprised of 2 hard working women. Brenda is 20 years old and lives in the town of Lira in the Lira region of Uganda. She has 2 children with 1 of them currently in school. For the past 2 years, Brenda has been working hard to manage her Retail, which sells millet, sorghum, cabbages, and tomatoes.

To help expand her business, Brenda has requested a share of 800000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy cabbages, millet, sorghum, and tomatoes, and will help Brenda to generate greater profits.

When Brenda's business expands and earns more profits, she will be able to meet more basic needs at home, pay school fees for her children thereby improving on their standard of living.

Brenda hopes that in the future she will be able to expand to a food stall.

Brenda is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
