A loan helped to purchase a biodigester to improve his farm with sustainable technology.

James's story

James lives in the rural region of Munyuini, Kenya with his 18 family members including children. He works hard to produce quality corn, forage, fruits, and tea, and raises eight cows. Currently, he finds himself spending excessive amounts on fossil fuels (LP gas), wood, charcoal, and agrochemical fertilizers, and the cost continues to increase.

That is why James decided to invest in a 40 cubic meter Sistema.bio biodigester to transform his cows' waste into clean and renewable energy (biogas) and a potent organic fertilizer (biol). Using his biodigester, he will be able to convert the cows' manure generated daily on his farm into biofertilizer and renewable energy. He will do so by feeding the system with manure and through a process of anaerobic digestion, the organic waste will be transformed into methane-rich organic fertilizer and biogas. The biofertilizer will be applied to his crops, improving both quality and yields, which eliminates the need to rely on petroleum-based agrochemical fertilizers.

This will also be an opportunity to save money and provide healthy organic food for his family and clients. He will use the money he saves to pay school fees for his children and to expand his dairy business.

This loan represents 69% of the price of the biodigester; the remaining part is paid directly by James.

This loan is special because:

It saves farmers money by transforming waste into biogas and organic fertilizer.
