Angella's story

Angella is 25 years old and lives in the town of Buwama in the Kyengera region of Uganda. She has 3 children with 2 of them are currently in school. For the past 4 years, Angella has been working hard to manage her Farming business, which grows green bananas, cassava, and sweet potatoes.

To help expand her business, Angella has requested a loan of 1,600,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy an improved quality seedlings of to plant, and will help Angella to generate greater profits. Then, Angella will be in a position to afford more basic needs and also improve on her standards of living and contribute to respective bills, such as medication for her family, or paying school fees for her children. Angella hopes that in the future she will be able to start a produce store.

Angella is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
