Momoio's story

Momoio is a 41-year-old married woman and has three children and one grandchild. One of her children is currently attending school.

She is running four businesses which are: selling soft tapa, making tapa, making kiekie as handicrafts and growing sandal woods. Her business are located in her home town and she used to sell there.

Momoio is self-employed and does not hire someone to help her business - only her husband and her two daughters help.

Last February, Tonga was struck by a very strong cyclone named Gita that affected most Tongan people. As for Momoio, she faced challenges of the destruction of her house and her businesses. All of the soft tapa was wet and ruined. The raw materials were damaged and caused a problem in her business, because less money was received due to limited products produced. Also, the customers demanded more, but because there were limited products being produced, she lost customers.

She had her loan from SPBD and can overcome her challenges while continuing to actively run her business.

When they sell their products, she uses the money to help pay her family's living expenses, to save money and for loan repayment.

In the future, her vision is to build a better house for her family, send her products overseas for better income, and educate her youngest daughter to the fullest.
