Future Youths Group's story

These are members of the 'Future Youths' group. They are small-scale businesspeople in the small town of Waterloo, near Freetown. They want to expand their businesses but lack the required capital to enable them to do so. They have thus formed themselves into a group of three and applied to SMT/'Shine on Sierra Leone' for a loan of SLL 500,000 each. With this loan, they can expand their businesses, make more sales and better profit. In this way, their living conditions will improve to a new level.

Sulaiman K. on the left in the photo is the leader of this group. Sulaiman was born in Koindu in eastern Sierra Leone. He is married to a businesswoman and they have two children – one in class two and the other not yet of school-going age. Sulaiman sells phones, top-up cards for all the four networks, mobile phone accessories, and he recharges mobile phone batteries for a fee of SLL 1,000. Sulaiman has been doing business for ten – fifteen years now. With this loan, he will be able to expand his business by adding top-up cards, phone batteries and provisions (milk, sugar, butter, mayonnaise etc) to it.
