A loan helped to expand her business.

Mukana's story

Mukana is a 22-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her grandmother, two children and two other dependents in Kalabo District in Zambia.

She grows and sells rice.

Mukana is requesting a Kiva loan to expand her business. She plans to use the profit she earns to help her pay school fees for her dependents and to buy food for her household.

To pay off the ‘social interest’ on her loan, Mukana will be volunteering 3 hours per week as a Business Guide. She will teach local women how to become successful entrepreneurs in sessions on developing their business acumen and share lessons she learned from operating her own business.

This loan is special because:

It is a 0% interest loan for young women with new businesses.
