A loan helped a member to pay for improved seed, organic inputs, and a tractor rental which will allow these farmers to escape subsistence by farming a larger area for a higher yield.

Fanta K's Female Farmers Group's story

Fanta K (1st on left), featured borrower of Fanta K's Female Farmers, is a master farmer in Makennie village and has a large family of 10. She is a strong leader in the community, and leads the female youth farmer's group, helping young female farmers get their start.

She is a seasoned farmer who lost her business during the Ebola crisis as well as several extended family members. She refuses to give up despite losing a lifetime of work. She organised a large group of women who similarly had prospered before the crisis, lost everything but now will not give up.

All members are currently trapped in a cycle of subsistence and take extremely high-interest loans for poor quality inputs during planting time. A no-interest KIVA loan will therefore enable this group of determined women to get back on their feet and back in business.

In this group: Fanta, Mamusu, Saffie, Kadiatu, Fatmata, Mabinty, Saffie, Marie, Mabinty, Rugiatu

This loan is special because:

It enables farmers to access farm inputs to improve their yield for increased income.
