A loan helped to buy different varieties of cereals such as maize, beans, sorghum and barley to sell to her customers and improve her living standard.

Emmy's story

Emmy was born to a poor family in Kapsowar, Kenya, but worked hard to change her family’s fortunes. It is through farming that Emmy is able to provide decent meals in her home. She loves attending to various farming activities such as spraying, irrigating, harvesting, and raising her livestock (cattle and poultry).

Emmy is married and blessed with well-disciplined children. She has been farming for the last 13 years. The income she makes from selling milk and eggs is used to provide for the basic needs of her family. Though she has gathered much experience in this business, she is not comfortable with the little she earns after having invested so much of her time and effort.

Emmy's clients enjoy the quality of milk and crops that she sells to them. Emmy has decided to borrow a loan to buy different varieties of cereals from local farmers and sell to her customers and at the local market. Through this engagement, she will earn a commission that she intends to use to repay the loan and elevate her standard of living.

This loan is, therefore, an opportunity that she never had before. Her irregular income and lack of collateral were the main drawbacks that prevented her from accessing a loan from the commercial banks. Thanks to Juhudi Kilimo and Kiva, the life of Emmy and her family will be changed through this loan.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
