Problem
With a population in excess of one billion people and an extremely low demand for labor, Sub-Saharan Africa is confronted with an unemployment crisis resulting in poverty. The informal sector represents nearly 95% of jobs in the region and does not provide sufficient income nor stability to live above the poverty line.

Solution
All Across Africa (AAA) creates employment opportunities for the economically marginalized people of Africa by employing over 3200 rural artisans to produce high quality handmade products for AAA’s home décor and accessories markets in the West. AAA develops and trains groups of women and men to become highly skilled artisans. The artisans earn wages which help them improve their standard of living. These wages provide for safe housing, nutritious food, access to education and healthcare and the ability to invest and save for their future. See an All Across Africa artisan story here.

Loan Use & Impact
AAA has successfully repaid its first USD50,000 Kiva loan, which enabled the company to provide living wages and sustainable jobs to 150 artisans. With the support of the loan we also launched the Kazi brand with a new website, expanding the brand’s online presence. This loan will be invested into new product development, using new materials such as olive wood and textiles, and enabling AAA to work with more artisans in new communities!

This loan is special because:

it helps artisans stabilize their income and practice their craft.
