From the beginning of my design career, my background in sociology has guided my business model and practices. I aim to design goods that are equal parts functional and beautiful, and I fully believe that I can achieve my goals through enriching the lives of others rather than exploiting them. To this end, I am committed to local production, fair compensation for labor, and ethically sourced materials.
Likewise, Kelly began her business in 2006 with a commitment to ethically sourcing and producing her organic clothing line for women. Her ongoing commitment to sustainability is greatly influenced by her childhood in North Carolina where Kelly witnessed first hand the devastation a small town can experience when a major source of employment, such as cotton production, moves overseas. After the birth of her son, and a brief sabbatical, she came back to the business with the goal of deepening her brand’s sustainable strategies and strengthening her impact on the local design ecology.
Rona’s path to her design practice began after the birth of her son. Wanting to make him pants that didn’t slide off while he crawled was her first priority. Upon deeper thought, she decided the only way to move forward was using fabrics that were kind to his skin and to the planet. What began as a utilitarian concern transformed into a business that focuses on sourcing sustainable fabrics and using water soluble inks that do not harm the earth or her printers. She now creates sustainable children’s accessories and home goods that are made by her and by small batch manufacturers in Pittsburgh.
Together, we are working toward a future where good work is appropriately compensated, goods are once again made to last, and each purchase enriches a local community of skilled labor and artisans.

What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
"N/A" means the Lending Partner disburses loans to borrowers in USD so their loans are not subject to any currency fluctuation.
