Costance's story

Constance is 16 years old and lives in the town of Kangulumira in the Njeru region of Uganda. For the past year, Constance has been working hard to manage her boutique, which sells blouses, skirts and ladies pants.

To help expand her business, Constance has requested a loan of 1,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more ladies clothes to respond to the prevailing demand, and will help Constance to generate greater profits.

If Constance ealizes more profits from the expanded business, she will be in position to improve on her standards of living and also cater for her siblings and contribute to their respective school dues.

Constance hopes that in the future she will be able to buy a plot of land and build a family house.

Constance is a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities, and a forum for life-skills training.
