A loan helped to buy seeds, fertilizer and the other supplies she needs for her farming business.

Lilian Pamela's story

Lilian, 33, is a single mother with two school-aged children. She operates a farming business, growing potatoes and squash, in Cairoma, a rural area in the shadow of snow-covered mountains.

Lilian and her children live in a house that she owns. She can plant two crops of potatoes and squash a year and does all the related work with a spray device that she carries on her back, picks, shovels and other manual tools. She travels to the city twice a year to sell what she harvests. She is applying for a loan so that can buy the seeds, fertilizer and other supplies she needs to plant her next crop. She can store her potatoes and squash, a big advantage because she can wait for the best price to sell them. Her biggest obstacle is a lack of money to buy the supplies she needs to go forward.

When we asked Lilian about her hopes for the future, she told us that she would like to buy mechanized tools that would make her work easier and more productive.

Lilian will use this loan to buy seeds, fertilizer and the other supplies she needs to carry on her business. The investment will help her to earn the money she needs to support her children.
