Gregoria is 55 years old, married, and has two school-aged children. She has a business growing potatoes and wheat.
Gregoria works in Punata rural area, situated on a lush green blanket of vegetation and surrounded by picturesque fields of crops.
Gregoria and her family live in a house that they own. They have six hectares of land where they grow potatoes and, to rotate the production cycle, wheat. Both crops are harvested once a year. All of the work is manual, and tasks are divided amongst the family. They use tools, such as a fumigator-spraying backpack, an ox to push the plough, and spades and picks. In order to guarantee a yield, Gregoria has an irrigation system to provide water from the hills.
Gregoria sells the products at two local markets, keeping some for consumption by the family and for seeds. Gregoria is thinking about expanding the volume of crops so has rented land; she just needs to lay manure and sow the seeds. One advantage of Gregoria’s business is that she has a market. One problem is the lack of farming supplies to start sowing the crops. Gregoria’s dream is to buy land and to start sowing her crops.
Gregoria will use this loan to buy organic manure and potato seeds. This is Gregoria’s second loan from the organisation in the 33 years that she has been doing this work.
For the above reasons, Gregoria is applying for a loan in order to buy manure and seeds to sow potatoes and then invest the profits in buying land.
