A loan helped to purchase an incubator for his poultry business.

Salvator's story

Salvator fled to Rwanda with his family as a Burudian refugee last August. He left behind his 20,000 chickens and incubation business, which supported his family. Since then, he has started a similar business incubating chicken eggs and selling baby chicks in his new country. With just 500 chickens laying eggs now, he plans to continue growing his business in the hopes of rebuilding what he left behind. Without any additional financial support, Salvator's poultry business is the sole income-generator for his family.

Buying an incubator will reduce Salvator's business costs since he now rents the incubator, and it will allow him to increase sales by incubating and selling even more chickens. This will help him provide for his family in this new country. Salvator is an expert in this business, and has completed several trainings on best practices for raising and incubating chickens. For example, Salvator takes extra precautions to minimize the risks of disease outbreaks. Having owned a business 40 times the size of his current business operations, Salvator has showed great resilience and growth potential in the face of unexpected loss.
