A loan helped to buy materials for her successful crochet business and open it to more women working with her.

Safaa's story

Safaa is a 31 year old mother of 3 kids. An ambitious and passionate woman who believes in hard work.
After completing her diploma in engineering studies, Safaa got married and moved with her husband to Hashmiyeh. She was blessed with three kids and she spent her days caring for them.

However, a few years ago, Safaa's daughter was diagnosed with a difficult disease and health centers in Jordan were unable to treat her. Therefore, Safaa's daughter has to travel periodically to a different country to undergo treatment.

Safaa's husband works for the Jordanian Custom Department; but as living expenses increased and with their daughters high treatment costs; it was difficult to maintain a financially stable life. In order to assist her husband, while still being able to care for her children – Safaa began creating crochet pieces and selling them in her neighborhood.

People loved her work and began making customized orders. At first Safaa was able to manage her time well, but as demand increased she became overwhelmed. She asked her family members to help her and requested a 1,000 JD loan from Kiva field partner Micro fund for the women to buy more materials for expanding her crochet business.

Safaa dreams of opening up an 'Art Corner' in her community to encourage people's imagination. She also hopes of owning a crochet shop where she sells her work.

This loan is special because:

It empowers the most vulnerable women in Jordan.
