A loan helped a member to pay for improved seed, organic inputs and a tractor rental which will allow these farmers to escape subsistence by farming a larger area with a higher yield.

Salone's Best Female Farmers Group's story

Hawa, featured borrower of "Salone's Best Female Farmers," is a Master Farmer in Wore-Bana village and has a large family of nine. Her dream is for "all our children here in Wore-Bana to go to school."

Hawa is a strong leader in the community and often supports other female farmers and coordinates their input purchasing. Hawa is a seasoned farmer who lost her business during the Ebola crisis but refuses to give up despite losing a lifetime of work. She organised a large group of other women who similarly had prospered before the crisis, lost everything but now will not give up. All members are currently trapped in a cycle of subsistence and take extremely high-interest loans for poor quality inputs during planting time.

A no-interest Kiva loan will therefore enable this group of determined women to get back on their feet and back in business.

In this group: Hawa, Umu, Adamaberi, Aminata, Marie, Mabinty, Fatmata, Hawa, Zainab, Isatu, Yeabu, Aminata, Sallay, Isatu
