Dawn's story

It would be easy to say that I was born and raised in the Midwest but that wouldn’t explain some of my “not so Midwestern” ideas or clothing; the difference would be the 10 years working and living in China. Seeing the results of devaluation of the girl child and extreme poverty ignited a desire that grew into a passion to fight human trafficking.

Combating human trafficking through dignified employment fights the issue at a deeper level and results in deeper impact! It goes along with the adage, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” Our goods are made by survivors of sex trafficking and those coming out of marginalized situations, thus providing a safe place, a fair wage, and the dignity that comes from supporting oneself. Dignified employment allows women to lift themselves out of poverty and vulnerable situations. The more we sell, the more jobs we create! Now that is a business model into which I can (and do) pour myself!

Building a social enterprise has stretched and grown me in ways I never would have dreamed. My understanding of how business strategies and dignified employment can stimulate economic growth for some of the most needy has fine-tuned the direction of Made for Freedom. I am thrilled with the team we have in place and how far we have come. I’m anxious to move forward with a new and improved CREABELI line and to bring on new staff to help implement the new strategies. Please join us in fighting human trafficking with style.

I will be hosting several Facebook Live events on our Made for Freedom FB page if you would like to know more.

This loan is special because:

It helps a female entrepreneur purchase necessary inventory for her socially impactful business, which supports victims of sex trafficking.
