A loan helped a member to buy fertilizer, rolls of nylon, and supports for her tomatoes & chiles.

Las Flores Santa Marta Group's story

Thirteen women formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Las Flores de Santa Marta” in the department/state of Sacatepéquez, Guatemala, an area with hills, mountains & volcanoes. They raise tomatoes and chiles and are starting their 2nd KIVA loan cycle.

Marta is one of the members of the Trust Bank. She is 23 years old and went to school through 3rd grade. She and her husband have 2 children under 5. She grows tomatoes and chiles to sell in her community and surrounding areas. With her KIVA loan, she will buy fertilizer, rolls of nylon, and supports for her tomatoes and chiles. Those supplies will guarantee the best results and increase her sales.

Marta & her companions meet monthly to make payments on their loans & participate in non-formal education using games, role playing and other activities to learn about finances, business and health for women and children. Friendship Bridge’s “Microcredit Plus” provides this combination of loans, education &and healthcare.

Thank you very much to KIVA investors for your support of Guatemalan women building better lives for their families and communities!
