A loan helped to increase her stock of ladies clothes and handbags.

Susan Njoki's story

Susan Njoki N. has been running her own business, Makena Special, for two years selling used clothing. She specializes in children's clothes and ladies trousers and shoes. Her clientele is primarily women. Located in a residential area, her stall is very busy, yet she does face challenges in the form of competition and lack of capital. Susan is using the proceeds of her 20,000 shilling loan to increase her offering of ladies clothes and expand into handbags.

Susan is married to a salesman and has two children: Doreen, age 7, and Teddy, age 3. She describes herself as having strong customer skills and she aspires to expand her offerings into new clothes and, ultimately, into a wholesale operation. Susan's life goals are to own her house and for her children to reach a higher level of education than she was able to achieve.
