A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds to enable her to grow more vegetables and, as a zealous mom, to educate her children.

Diana's story

“When you are born in the ghetto and in a poor family, that does not limit you from achieving your goals and dreams,” says Diana, who was born in a poor background but promises to break the chains of poverty.

Diana (pictured with her last born outside her compound) is a hardworking mom who works two times harder because she wants to get out of poverty.

She is from a remote village in the Molo area of Kenya. Thanks to her daily efforts, she has managed to give her children a good start by providing them with a high-quality education.

Diana has a farm where she grows vegetables and raises livestock; she also earns some income from a personal business. She never had a formal education and is content with the farming lifestyle.

She is seeking a 300,000 KES loan through Kiva's field partner Juhudi Kilimo to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and seeds to enable her to grow more vegetables, reap maximum profits and increase her business.

Being a mom from a marginalized community and accessing funds in Kenya, especially around Molo, is very challenging, but Diana feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva that help enterprising women like herself.

She is always working to improve her family’s living conditions. Her biggest dreams are to become independent and support her family by herself, to secure her children’s future by paying their tuition fees and to buy a home.
