A loan helped clear his farm in preparation for the next planting season.

Alex's story

Alex is a farmer from Nyamarunda subcounty. He is aged 43 and married with four children who all attend school. He is a prominent coffee grower in the area and has been doing this for the past eight years. After harvest, he dries the coffee and supplies it to processing factories within Kagadi district and the surrounding regions. He has applied for a loan of 4,000,000 Ugandan shillings (UGX) from UGAFODE to enable him to clear his garden in preparation of the next planting season. He is optimistic that he will reap a huge harvest next time because he is planning to plant on a larger scale.
Alex appreciates the financial support from funders. He intends to diversify and start growing other crops like cabbages, tomatoes and onions in the future to increase his income. Lastly, he faces the challenges of coffee wilt disease, which affects his output levels, and price fluctuations.
