These seven Maya Kaqchikel women have formed the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "Flor de Camelias" in the Guatemalan departmentof Chimaltenango. They are beginning their first loan cycle with Kiva & are looking forward to infusing new capital into their small businesses making traditional outfits and crafts. Some ladies are farmers. They all participate in monthly sessions of the "Microcredit Plus" program of small loans, plus educational trainings and health care. In their monthly educational trainings, they learn about good business practices like budgeting, saving, and investing that will help them grow their businesses.
36-year-old Juliana is a member of the group. She has a 4th grade education. She is married and has 6 children from age 10 months to 12 years. Juliana and her husband are farmers, growing broccoli and peas. She also earns additional income making beautiful traditional blouses called "huipiles." She is requesting a loan to buy seeds and fertilizer for her farm, as well as a variety of colorful thread for her textiles.
Juliana says that she is very grateful to Kiva investors for the loan that supports her businesses and also for the educational lessons provided by Friendship Bridge, where she has learned about controlling expenses and saving. Thank you, Kiva investors, for your generous support!
