A loan helped provide 240 vulnerable women with contract employment, fair wages, training and micro-loans.

Housekipp's story

Housekipp is a home and office cleaning and maintenance services company in Peru that trains and hires women living in vulnerable situations, providing them with the opportunity to improve their income.

In Lima, less than 1% of housekeepers have a formal contract with their employers and most of them are treated with indifference. Without a contract, women working as housekeepers earn below minimum wage and lack access to respective work benefits such as healthcare, pension and vacations.

Housekipp is changing this situation by providing 1) formal contracts between employers and employees and 2) a fair wage for their services. Additionally, Housekipp benefits women in other ways: provides training to improve their housekeeping service quality, empowers them through training and career development opportunities to increase their responsibilities beyond cleaning services, and provides access to micro-loans for their children’s education.

Your Kiva loan will help grow Housekipp so that it can train and employ 240 women by 2021. The loan will be used to implement its communications and digital marketing strategy and to improve its web and mobile platform’s user experience and user interface. By supporting Housekipp in boosting its operations/sales, your loan will ultimately help increase hiring.

With your support, women in Peru will have the opportunity to improve their income, receive professional training, and access micro-loans for their children and families to thrive.

This loan is special because:

It supports businesses that are too big for microfinance but too small for banks.
