A loan helped to buy seeds and expand her vegetable business to provide a better life for her children.

Margaret's story

This is Margaret, a woman who is full of smiles. She is a person who has had to overcome a lot of adversity in her life. However, she has always had the strength to overcome it and move forward with her children.

Margaret is very hardworking and a go-getter. She hails from a remote village in the Nyamira area of Kenya. This area has difficult living conditions, and to survive, you must have tough skin. Margaret has defied all the odds and has been engaged in farming for the past six years. Her primary sources of income are tea farming, vegetables, crops, and animal farming. She also gets some income through a personal business.

Margaret is content with the farming way of life. She is a very enterprising woman and although she never had formal education or formal employment, she has always worked hard on her farm and has always been able to provide her children and family with a decent meal.

The Nyamira area has favorable conditions for horticulture farming and this is why Margaret is seeking a loan, to buy seeds and expand her vegetable farming. Because of the good roads, good climate and good transportation network, she is sure that she will reap maximum profits and be able to increase her vegetable business.

Being a woman and accessing funds in Nyamira is very challenging, but Margaret feels relieved knowing there are institutions such as Kiva.
