James's story

I’m a Veteran of the Ho Chi Minh Trail and a life-long entrepreneur. I’ve spent most of my career working as a social entrepreneur trying to help people. I thrive on the challenges that help promote equity for deserving individuals. Helping our returning Combat Veterans is a cause especially close to my heart. I have often championed social enterprises that provide housing and jobs for people. I’ve made a career challenging the status quo. As a Combat Veteran I have battled stigmas that assume failure for individuals with PTSD.
My favorite activity is providing consulting services to combat Veterans. One Veteran is building a peer-to-peer counseling business to help Veterans with PTSD. Rather than relying on government financial support, they are starting businesses. They are making a profit and lowering costs for public behavioral health systems. Watching them succeed is awesome.

I’m all about self-reliance and believe social enterprises should be self-sustaining enterprises. Our "help desk" supports Veterans while they create and build their businesses. These businesses also fight social stigmas by connecting Veterans back into their communities. development goals. It is now time for me to expand our business model. We need to bring more small business opportunities to our Veteran entrepreneurs. I relish the journey.

This loan is special because:

It helps a social entrepreneur to provide support to the Veteran entrepreneurs for creating and building their businesses.
