A loan helped to purchase improved farm inputs that will increase farm yield.

Fatima's story

Fatima, a Babban Gona maize farmer from Waziri Gadan Gayan village has been a Babban Gona farmer for 1 season. She has 1 child who aspires to be a successful farmer in the future.

Previously, Fatima and her family were only able to eat 2 meals a day despite toiling for several hours on the farm. However, as a Babban Gona member she will, as a result of this loan, be provided with higher yielding seeds that are locally adapted and are widely accepted in her local community. She will also have the recommended pesticides and fertilizers based on the results of her field assessment. This will enable her to optimize her yield, where she can attain yields of up to 3.8 metric tonnes per hectare; 2 times the national average in Nigeria.

This season, Fatima will use the income generated from her maize sales to pay her child's school fee. Fatima’s greatest memory as a Babban Gona farmer was when she sent her child to a better school as a result of the loan she got in the past. Fatima is confident that with Babban Gona her future is secured and that she will have many more great memories and amazing accomplishments together with her family.
