A loan helped a member to pay for improved seed, organic inputs and tractor rental which will allow these farmers to escape subsistence by farming a larger area with a higher yield.

Prosperity Farmers Group's story

Zainab K (first from right) is a passionate farmer who believes farming can and should be a way forward for women to be empowered economically and socially. Her farming supports her husband and five children as well as several extended family members. The Ebola crisis devastated Rolayan economically and left many farmers trapped in a cycle of subsistence. Zainab has organized 11 such women who suffered greatly from the effects of the outbreak so that they can access support and get back in business. In her own words "farming will lead us back to prosperity, and is a way we can take care of each other and the land." A KIVA loan to the Prosperity Farmers will therefore help a group of positive women empower themselves and their community - enhancing livelihoods and also food security in a community which is still suffering from the economic legacy of the Ebola Crisis.
