Traci's story

I am an Oakland native. Dance is my first love. I moved to NYC to pursue my career as a dancer and was successful with my craft. Upon returning home to Oakland and began photographing the burgeoning Hip Hop music scene in the Bay Area. With no formal training I credit my years of dance and theater that gave me my eye for composition and timing for capturing a great moment. I began publishing those images in local and national music magazines. Being immersed in the growing music industry was incredible. I attended many events with my camera on my shoulder and note book in my back pack ready to capture a story. In addition to shooting for magazines I shot for independent and mainstream record labels. This body of work gives a unique look into how the Hip Hop music industry was thriving not just in the Bay Area but it's impact was felt around the world in the 1990's.
