A loan helped a member to pay for an ACE 1 clean cookstove.

Marallaneng Group's story

Makhotso is a 74-year-old widowed mother of seven children. She has six grandchildren. She lives in a one-bedroom house with her family of five.

She uses LP gas and paraffin in her house. She also travels long distances and pays for mobile phone charging, as she has no electricity installed in her house. She is unemployed and earns a living from her pension funds.

She has requested a loan from Kiva lenders to purchase a clean cookstove to help herself and nine other people from her village who live in similar circumstances and will also buy cookstoves.

This will allow them the chance to reduce the costs of fuel and time spent collecting fuel. This stove can be started with a little readily available biomass such as twigs and dry cow dung. It is smokeless and it comes with an LED lamp.
