Su Su is 31 years old and she is a married women. There are 4 family members in her family including her husband and two sons. She is a farmer and also she has a small shop in front of her house. She has been farming for over 10 years. Su Su is farming with 4 acres of land of which she owns 2 acres and another 2 acres are rented.
Her lands can only grow monsoon rice paddy's. She explains that she observes different prices by asking other farmers as well as paddy brokers. She usually sells her rice as soon as she gets higher prices. She faced an insect problem last year but she was able to control it on time by being organized and using insecticide. She received her first loan from SOO in 2016, which she used for buying fertilizer and insect killers and paying labor fees. After she joined SOO, she has worried less about higher interest rates because SOO offers an interest rate which is lower than other local lenders and it is very convenient for her with the repayment schedule.
She uses the profit for her family’s living expenses such as food, healthcare fees, and school fees for her sons and repayment for loans. She explains that she is able to expand her small shop with the profit from rice farming. She is now applying for a second loan which she would like to use to extend her farm business by buying more fertilizer and paying labor fees and fuel costs for the tractor.
Her dream is that she can expand her shop and she also wants to fix her house in in 2017.
