Fatoumata is the one holding the tub of rice in the photo. She is 53, Malian, educated, and the mother of four children, aged 10 to 14, of whom all are attending school. She has been trading in rice for over five years.
She turns to RMCR to improve her business. At the right time, she purchases rice in nearby villages. After a few months, she sells the rice at fairs in her town. The profits enable her to help her husband to cover the costs of medical care and clothing for the children.
Fatoumata likes this work, since there is less risk, despite frequent drops in prices. She manages to make ends meet. In the days to come, her wish is eventually to have much more money to purchase more rice.
