A loan helped to buy cereals.

Leah's story

Dear Kiva lender!

Leah has never set foot in any higher learning institutions, but she is an accomplished farmer from the Kerugoya area of Kenya. She commands a lot of respect. She is happily married and, together with her handsome husband, is blessed with adorable children.

For the past ten years, she has been involved in dairy farming. Because of the immense knowledge she has of farming, farmers from her village seek technical advice from her on the best dairy-farming techniques.

Leah is the breadwinner for her family. This really pushes her to work hard so that her children will have a bright future and her aging parents will have a comfortable life.

Although she makes a profit from farming, she is not comfortable. She has always wanted to increase her income by selling cereals, so she is seeking this loan to buy cereals such as beans. Kenya's Kerugoya area, one of the country's populated regions, has a high demand for cereals. This means that Leah could satisfy the demand that is there and increase her profits.

Accessing funds has been a challenge for Leah, but she now feels relieved because Juhudi Kilimo is partnering with Kiva lenders to help hardworking women farmers like her turn their farming dreams into reality through training and loan financing.

This loan will soothe her living, and she'll be able to develop her cereal business. Leah is very grateful in advance.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
