Mariama S (pictured alone in her shop) is a young, entrepreneurial woman with a passion for business. Despite the challenges of Sierra Leone's recent Ebola Outbreak, she has managed to rebuild her business and is currently managing a trader group of 10 other hard working women. While international coverage of the Ebola crisis and acute danger have faded, the stark economic damage done is still creating enormous challenges for survivors. Mariama is an inspiring example of resilience in the face of crisis.
In her own words, Mariama says "Our group wants to grow and help the local farmers. Our people deserve a chance to stand up again after such a terrible time."
The Mariama S Group's KIVA loan will therefore be used to purchase locally produced rice from Makeni to grow each member's trading business while increasing employment, food access and food security in Sierra Leone during the post-Ebola recovery period.
