Papa Wiu Pape Group's story

“Papa wiu” is a group composed of five women who live close to each other in their community. One of them is Yuliana, a 40 year-old woman, who has 3 children: Juan, 13, and Ansel, 9, both in elementary student, and the last one is Elisabeth, 5, who has not attended school yet. Her husband is Yohanes, who is 38 and a farmer. Yuliana's daily activity is not just as a housewife who cares for the family but she also cultivates vegetables like string bean, long beans, kale, peanut, sweet potato, chili, etc., moreover raising pigs and a cow.

In a year, Yuliana has 3-4 times an opportunity to work on the farm. For each cultivating season, Yuliana expends about IDR 260.000 on the seeds and she is able to get a profit of IDR 1.500.000 for the harvest. With the aim of generating more income, Yuliana wishes to buy more seeds and also to pay the rent of the tractor machine to work on the rice field in this cultivating season.

As a result, with other 4 neighbors she formed a group and proposed a group loan for the amount of IDR 15.000000 to TLM. As a member, Yuliana utilized her loan portion of IDR 3.000.000 to purchase more seeds of kale, string bean, long bean, collards, 50 kilograms of fertilizer, and to pay the rent fees of the tractor machine.
