Sumnali Group's story

Esterina is a 42-year-old woman and is married to Januarius, a 44-year-old fisherman. Esterina and husband live with four children, aged between 2 and 20 years old, with two of the children still in school. Esterina is an expert in weaving sarongs and shawls. She was taught how to produce woven items since she was young.


With her skill, Esterina produces woven for sale. She enjoys doing this business as it is profitable. As a fisherman, Januarius cannot provide fixed income as the catch depends on weather.


Nevertheless, Esterina and her husband always help each other to earn income. Esterina even plans to replace a trawl that usually used by Januarius to catch the fish. Therefore, she joined the Sumnali group, consisting of nine women who have their own businesses. They have requested a loan totaling of IDR 18,000,000.
