Nyaung Hla - 2 (E) Village Group's story

Included in the photo (2nd from the right) is A Mi who is 31 years old. Her main businesses are crop farming and raising goats. She has been a farmer for 10 years. Her farm has been stable and she is always happy and satisfied during harvest time. With the profit this loan will produce, she aims to buy more land in the future. Like her fellow members, A Mi will use the loan for farming expenses such as crop seeds and labor costs that will be necessary to enrich and efficiently harvest her crop. Labor is expensive given that most young people are migrating to cities in search of jobs.


Nyaung Hla Village is located in Pakokku township which is in the central dry zone of Myanmar. This group currently has 5 village customers, including the featured borrower who helps to lead the loan program in the area. This village usually grows sesame, groundnuts and green gram, but suffers from drought and labor shortages. To generate additional income, some villagers raising goats for both milk and meat.
