Cerro Iglesias is an off-grid, impoverished district in Chiriqui, Panama where the typical family (average 9 members per household) earn only $8 per day via employment as subsistence farmers or construction workers. Most families struggle to access energy and spend a significant portion of their income on batteries for lighting and cell phone charging.
Solution & Impact
Founded in 2013, Solubrite is a last mile solar energy distributor whose mission is to provide clean, affordable solar energy to rural families in Central America. To-date, Solubrite has provided high quality solar energy systems to over 10,000 families in Central America affordably.
Solubrite’s customers have attested to not only the savings generation from no longer having to purchase candles, kerosene, and/or batteries, but also the gains in productivity—with students no longer having to do homework only in the afternoon and shopkeepers being able to open their stores into the night.
Loan Use
With your generosity, this loan will allow Solubrite to further scale its impact by purchasing 305 more pay-as-you-go (PAYG) solar home units and addressing the rampant energy poverty in Cerro-Iglesias. PAYG is a highly impactful technology that allows end-users to affordably pay for the products in installments, democratizing access to clean energy.
