A loan helped a member to purchase a solar light, and gain access to cost-efficient hybrid seeds and fertilizer for maize cultivation.

Metrine's Group's story

Metrine is 48 years old and has six children. She is a group leader and is representing her group, formed by nine farmers in Chwele District, Kenya.

Metrine has been farming with One Acre Fund for years now, having joined the program for the first time in 2007. This decision was largely a result of her desire to get the best-quality fertilizer and hybrid seeds. Although she describes her last harvest as poor due to bad weather conditions, she believes she could have a better one this year by continuing to work alongside One Acre Fund. Metrine also decided to purchase a solar light as part of her loan. She is very excited about this, as it will allow her to have light during dark hours for her children to use for study.

Obtaining this loan means that Metrine's Group will be able to receive a total of 3 solar lights, as well as farming inputs to plant a total of 4.25 acres.

In this group: Metrine, Simiyu, Wamama, Manyonge, Wanyembi, Kakai, Wekesa, Wasike, Alice

This loan is special because:

It supports smallholder farmers to purchase seeds and solar lanterns.
