A loan helped maría buy fertilizer for her organic coffee plants and keep them weed-free.

María Ormecinda's story

23-year old María is single and lives with her mother in Nuevo Jerusalén, a community of coffee growers located in Jaén, Peru. With a lot of effort and dedication María earns her living growing coffee so she can contribute to family finances.

During the months when there is no coffee to harvest, María works in a bakery in Jaén where she earns the minimum wage. In this way she contributes to the household and supports herself and her mother.

María is a new member of Norandino. She needs money to buy fertilizer for her coffee crop and provide good upkeep to her plants so she can continue to harvest more coffee. With the income she earns, she will plant a larger area and save money to buy more land. She knows that if she is responsible she will be able to access better opportunities to improve her family's standard of living.
