A loan helped to buy farm inputs such as seeds, fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides.

Felix's story

Felix is a smallholder farmer practicing mixed farming to provide for his family. He enjoys farming, for it is his means of securing the basic necessities for life. He and his wife have four children. He also has a small personal business (shop) to supplement the meager income he earns from farming.

In the Kapsowar area of Kenya where he comes from, most people depend on agriculture for a living. The people there live and work on small farms, and their biggest challenge is the huge deficit in access to agricultural inputs, meaning that farmers' yields and incomes are far below what they could be.

Juhudi Kilimo partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers in Kapsowar can now buy productive assets and important agricultural inputs for use in their farms.

Felix is seeking a loan in order to buy farm inputs such as seeds, fertilizer, herbicides and pesticides. Your loan will enable him to improve his production through the use of quality farm inputs. This intervention will help him fill the increasing demand for food in the market and, in the process, generate more income to repay the loan debt and elevate his family's quality of life.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
